Whether you are an amateur or a pro, you are always on the lookout for tips to help in improving your golf swing. It is important to think of the action of your hands and forearms when you make a swing. When you get into your impact position, and are about to make contact with the golf ball, flip your wrist in the same fashion you would use if you were casting out a fishing rod. One technique to help you do this properly is to use the watch on your wrist as a guide. When the face of your watch points to the ground, then you are ready to make the swing. You should also have your forearms as close together as possible to give you the greatest distance when you hit the ball.

Take note of your leg and hip movements when you swing. If you let your right knee collapse, this causes your shoulder to droop, which in turn causes your hips to sway. One tip to help you avoid doing this is to hold a basketball between your knees as you practice your swing so that both legs stay the same.

When you hold the shaft of the golf club at the same height as your waist, your thumb should be pointed upwards toward the sky. This is called having your hand in the hitchhiker position. Another way to make sure that your hand is in the correct position is to hold your hand as if you are about to shake hands with someone. When you can do this then you have your hands in the correct position for the swing.

Don’t swing too quickly. This is a common mistake many golfers make. Although you do need to hit the ball with a powerful swing, you should first establish a rhythm. When you start the swing, take a slight pause when you reach the top before you start the downward movement. This simple technique will help you place the ball more in the middle of the fairway than to one of the sides.

As you take a backswing, it is important to keep your weight on the inside of your right foot and slightly bend your knee. This will help you keep the strength of your upper body in the swing and enable you to hit the ball harder. The muscles of your body and legs are just as important in golf as the muscles of your arms and wrist.

A golf swing that hits the ball high isn’t necessarily the right one you need. Hitting the ball low and hard can be just as effective. Keep your hands forward to give you more control over the ball. Try this technique with clubs of different shaft lengths as you may find a longer shaft will improve your swing.
